"Happenin' All Over Again" is a song written and produced past Stock Aitken & Waterman for American singer Lonnie Gordon'south showtime album, If I Have to Stand Lonely (1990). It was released as the album'south second single on Jan 15, 1990, and reached No. four on the Uk Singles Chart. The song mixed Stock Aitken & Waterman'south Europop sound with the blooming Italo house music which was becoming big in the UK charts at the fourth dimension. This 1990 version was never released in the United states of america.

The song had been originally written for Donna Summertime, but due to a falling-out with the producers, she never recorded information technology. Instead, it was given to Gordon.[2] The Stock, Aitken & Waterman version was mixed by Phil Harding.

A different version of the song was included on Gordon'south 1993 album Bad Mood. This version was released as a U.S. single in 1993 and peaked at No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart,[3] and besides hit No. 1 on the U.Southward. Dance chart.[4] In 1998, Gordon recorded the song for a 2d fourth dimension and released information technology as a single.

Critical reception [edit]

Larry Flick from Billboard complimented the vocal, noting that Gordon'due south "fierce, sweet'northward'sour performance is diva-supreme."[v] David Giles from Music Calendar week called it an "outstanding pop/disco record", adding that "it betrays a salubrious obsession with Seventies dance music right downward to the very "showbizzy" chord changes."[half-dozen] The magazine also said it's "ane of the yr'south finest songs" and put it at number half dozen in their Superlative x list, "Pick of the Year - Mainstream Singles".[7] William Shaw from Boom Hits wrote that "it's one of those unstoppable thumping rhythms with a gloriously loud melody belted out over the top by the formidable Ms Gordon." He added that "this is the absolute stuff."[8]

Impact and legacy [edit]

British magazine Archetype Pop ranked information technology number 22 in their list of "Tiptop 40 Stock Aitken Waterman songs" in 2021. They wrote, "On a song originally intended for Donna Summer, phasing arpeggios were the guild of the day in the PWL studio for Happenin' All Once again, soon to become the sophomore single from Lonnie Gordon's debut album If I Have to Stand Alone. Mixed past Phil Harding, those Italo house influences are evident among the Euro dance-pop aureola, leading to a well-earned Summit v UK hitting. Later on, in 1998, Coronation Street 's Tracy Shaw had a scissure at it and clawed her way to No.46 (best forgotten)."[ix]

Music video [edit]

A music video was produced to promote the single. It was later published on PWL's official YouTube channel in December 2016. The video has amassed more than than 782,000 views every bit of September 2021.[x]
